Number of Positions: 1
Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated research scientist for nuclear reactor core design for a micro modular reactor (MMR) concept, for IIT Madras.
The project aims at the optimisation of a nuclear reactor core with respect to the design goals of long life , and , higher order of safety aimed towards operation in populated areas and easy transportability. This would require study of novel fuel materials and new types of coolants. .
The successful candidate will work closely with our team of experts and focus on the following deliverables
1.) Key publications in reputable journals
2.) Design and perform simulations, experiments and support with research management
3.) Support supervision on B.Tech/ M.Tech/ PhD students
Key Responsibilities:
The researcher will be responsible for reactor design involving core neutronics and fuel cycle analysis. This will involve optimising a high burnup reactor core with superior fuel performance with respect to energy generation, thermal heat removal aspects, analysis for nuclear core safety, study of fuelācoolant interaction, neutron irradiation in fuel and structural materials. The job will cover theoretical design optimisation studies involving precision engineering in neutronics and related thermal engineering.
The researcher is also required to study in detail the thermophysical and thermomechanical properties of nuclear fuel options and its associated heat removal towards a high level of safety. The research will also involve experimentation on fuel and structural components in neutron radiation fields.
