The Energy Consortium is an umbrella initiative at IIT Madras that spans the whole spectrum of research in energy generation, storage, conversion, and distribution. We are an industry-academia-government collaborative effort established with the aim of accelerating the development of technologies that shall enable the energy transition towards a low-carbon future.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to take part in our state-of-the-art research in the development of electrolyzers/fuel cells.  The candidate should have experimental expertise in design and handling electrolyzers, fuel cells and their balance of plant.

The successful candidate will work closely with our team of experts and focus on the following deliverables

1.) Key publications in reputable journals

2.) Design and perform simulations, experiments and support with research management

3.) Support supervision on B.Tech/M.Tech/PhD students

Postdoc Appointment Term:

1 year (renewable)

Appointment Start Date:

Pay: Better than industry standards

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and modelling of balance of plant for fuel cells/electrolyzers
  • Coordinate with companies to build the balance of plant and test them with fuel cells/electrolyzers
  • Understanding the efficiency losses in the device and improve the design
  • Work closely with industry partners to execute the project


  • Ph.D. in a relevant field, with a strong focus on high quality output including publications, technology development
  • Demonstrated expertise electrolyzers/fuel cell prototype development and testing
  • Proficiency in simulation softwares to carry out electrochemical device/BoP modelling.
  • Proven track record of publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.
  • Proven presentation and writing skills
  • Excellent at task management, reporting and project planning
