The Energy Consortium is an umbrella initiative at IIT Madras that spans the whole spectrum of research in energy generation, storage, conversion, and distribution. We are an industry-academia-government collaborative effort established with the aim of accelerating the development of technologies that shall enable the energy transition towards a low-carbon future.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to our cutting-edge research in development of combustor which can operate with Hydrogen/hydrocarbon blends in a power generation gas turbine engine. The successful candidate will work closely with our team of experts and focus on the following deliverables

1.) Key publications in reputable journals

2.) Design and perform simulations, experiments and support with research management

3.) Support supervision of B.Tech/M.Tech/PhD students/project staff.

Postdoc Appointment Term:

1 year (renewable)

Appointment Start Date:

Pay: Better than industry standards

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct original research in combustor design and development for replacing an existing combustor in a micro gas turbine engine.
  • Conduct experiments on a high pressure combustor which can handle hydrogen/hydrocarbon blends.
  • Collaborate with industry/ interdisciplinary team members to explore new research directions and contribute to grant proposals.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences to disseminate research outcomes.


  • Ph.D. in a related field (hydrogen/blended fuel combustors, or gas turbine engine combustion), with a strong focus on high quality output including publications, technology development
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: combustion stabilisaiton, experimental methods, Optical/spectroscopic  diagnostics flashback/blowout of combustors, combustion instability.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R) and experience with simulation tools such as ANSYS/Chemkin.
  • Proven track record of publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.
  • Proven presentation and writing skills
  • Excellent at task management, reporting and project planning
